Traveling around with our two classic cars we received a lot more attention than we expected. At every stop we would have someone come up to us and want to speak with us. Some people just wanted to know what four college guys were doing piled into an old Beetle, some wanted to tell us about their old cars or how they learned to drive on a car like ours, others however wanted talk (a lot) to us and wanted me to make sure I got their picture.

Who We MET

This is Ron. Ron was one of the most interesting people we met on this trip and for sure liked having his picture taken more than anyone else we met that week. Ron approached me when he saw that I had a camera around my neck and wanted me to take pictures of him doing various things. He owned a tire shop in Mexia Texas and said he hasn't had a good picture taken with his wife in years. Ron brought her out of the shop and asked if I could take one of them together and later mail it to him for him to have.

RON

This is Jada. She works the cash register at a gas station in Hope, AR. When we were stuck in Hope we had plenty of time to make friends with people in a couple mile radius. I walked with Luke in search of breakfast and found Jada (and her pretty fingernails) ready to welcome us in. She really wanted her picture taken too.

JADA

This is Mary. Mary is the wife of the owner of this great Pecan Pie place. She was very interested in what we were doing and it was really funny talking to her because she was super sassy. She was also very offended that I brought a camera into her store and wasn't going to get a picture of her.

MARY
WAFFLE HOUSE

I was always so surprised at the people who were the most curious about what we were doing. These Waffle House employees were some of the most fascinated people with us on our journey. They wanted to know all about where we were from and where we were planning on going. As I was leaving the restaurant, the woman on the far left yelled to me, "Aren't you going to take our picture too?"

JAMES

This is our boy James. As I was exploring around downtown Hope with Luke, we were talking with Jada and telling her our truck had problems when James walked in and told us he was a mechanic. He followed us back to the other guys who were trying to figure out what was wrong with the truck. James hung out with us a while and tried to figure it what was wrong with it, he gave us a lot of new ideas to try.

This is Ed. We met Ed at his restaurant Freedom Ranch Chuck Wagon in Somerville Texas. Ed was once a drug addict and alcoholic now after 20 years clean and finding Jesus he owns a little restaurant, trailer park, auto shop, and lots of fun trucks and cars. He hires ex-cons and addicts who are trying to straighten up and also holds AA meetings and bible studies at the restaurant to help others who are struggling.
